What is the Optimal Dosage for CBD Oil?
START LOW – GO SLOW
Determining an optimal dosage of CBD oil can vary significantly from person to person and will need to account for important factors such as:
- The concentration of CBD,
- The weight of the individual, and
- The individual’s body chemistry
You are unique and so is your CBD dose!
We are all unique and have our own unique history with the use of substances, medications, supplements, and other things we put in our body. How CBD works for one person may not be the same for another person. It is important to first determine YOUR initial dosage based on your weight. What works for your friend or family member may have a completely different effect for you.

Step 1 – Be sure to read your product label.
It is essential that first-time CBD users know how to read the product label on their bottle. The label contains important information about the serving size, the maximum number of servings recommended per day, amount of cannabinoids in each serving, and the other ingredients in your extract like Hemp seed oil or MCT oil.
Step 2 – Start low.
10 MG is considered a single serving for an adult. SONA CBD recommends for those that have limited or no experience with CBD, to start with a dose between 2-5 mg.
Step 3 – Wait and Evaluate.
After the first dose, wait an hour to 90 minutes to determine the effects. If no effects were noted, you can ingest more or increase the dosage next time. Just remember that the oral consumption of CBD oil results in a longer lasting effect and takes longer to activate. Also, if you consume with a large meal, the effect will be delayed and will last longer as the digestive process is focused on the large meal consumed.
Step 4 – Microdose.
Once the desired effect is achieved use the small dose over the course of the day (microdosing) rather than one large dose to provide optimal long lasting benefits.
Step 5 – Keep a log.
Track dosages, consumption method, and effects to help you achieve the results you desire.
Step 6 – Speak to your Doctor.
Discuss the potential benefits and health risks with your physician.
